Poorly or under-inflated tyres can rub on guards, other tyres, the chassis or they can ‘flap’ around if very flat, causing friction and heat build up. Tyres in this state can become hot enough to ignite and in turn set fire to the whole truck. The resultant fire may well be too much for a simple dry chemical extinguisher. At FEMAR, we recommend drivers regularly inspect their tyres and monitor every tyre for reduced tyre pressure or objects rubbing against the tyres.
